String Orchestra
The String Orchestra is a performing ensemble that is open to all level musicians. The String Orchestra performs advanced literature and participates in several concerts and festivals during the school year. Additionally, the students in String Orchestra are also part of the El Modena Philharmonic, a full symphony orchestra that includes winds and percussion. Students must have a strong commitment to rehearsal and individual practice time. Private lessons are strongly recommended.
Chair Placement Auditions are held during the first two weeks of the new school year. Audition materials regularly include etudes, scales, and sight-reading. Past membership in the ensemble does not guarantee the same chair placement the following year.
Membership carries the following responsibilities:
Attendance at all rehearsals, sectionals, clinics, and performances
Preparation of All-State/All-Southern music during Fall Semester
Audition for All-State/All-Southern
Participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival
Performance of concert and festival music
Maintain academic eligibility
Abide by all El Modena Instrumental Music and Performing Arts Program handbook policies
All students must enroll in the Orchestra (Course String Orchestra M740) to participate.
